Inspiring Young Readers
Wonderful drawings in response to a story by Beverley Naidoo
I was invited to share my collection of books about Africa with Year Two children at Moor Green Primary in Birmingham the other day. This had been a very successful event the previous year resulting in some wonderful drawings based on a traditional Amharic tale from Ethiopia, which I read aloud at the end of the session. This story is one of my favourites from ten magical stories from Africa, called ‘Who is King?’ by Beverley Naidoo, illustrated by Piet Grobler - and it’s a book I would strongly recommend.
Children, parents and teachers should be very proud of this year’s cohort of promising artists who created a range of interesting and colourful illustrations inspired the story. Take some time to scroll down and enjoy!
