An Interview With John Vernon Lord

The Letterpress Project has asked authors and illustrators to think about what has inspired them as artists, what their favourite books are and how they relate to their audience - we've also asked them if they themselves are book collectors.

We are absolutely thrilled to present an interview by author, illustrator and professor, John Vernon Lord. John has written and illustrated a number of children’s books; The Giant Jam Sandwich being the most well known. He has also illustrated myths, sagas, epics, poetry, novels and three works by Lewis Carroll. His The Nonsense Verse of Edward Lear (with 330 illustrations) won prizes and his Aesop’s Fables won the WH Smith/V&A Award in 1990. He is the author of two books about drawing and illustrating, and has recently illustrated James Joyce’s Ulysses and Finnegans Wake for the Folio Society. He was Professor of Illustration at the University of Brighton for many years and is now a Professor Emeritus.

John has his own blog if you want to read more about him which can be accessed on this link: http://johnvernonlord.blogspot.co.uk/
