The Coalition Book by Martin Rowson
In times when we're being ruled by fools and charlatans we need our greatest satirists to step forward and expose their folly. We're fortunate to have great cartoonists who dedicate their time to pricking the absurd, inflated egos of the Establishment - Steve Bell, Chris Riddell and the very great Martin Rowson. We're also fortunate to have Martin Rowson's collected thoughts - in cartoon form - on the depressing Coalition Government that none of us voted for.
For me, Rowson has created the definitive David Cameron - an astonishing collection of twisted balloons dressed as Little Lord Fauntleroy mincing his privileged way through public life accompanied by a Flashmanesque George Osborne. He also captures the utter pointlessness of the Liberals and provides us with a haunting premonition of the electoral nightmare they were heading towards.
Now the rain clouds are really gathering because we've got ourselves a majority Conservative government. Can the Four Horsemen be far behind? What I do know is that if we have to go into the political dark pit, I'd give a lot of money to have Martin Rowson by my side.
