The Tornado Chasers by Ross Montgomery

Ross Montgomery is a first-time author. He started writing stories as a teenager, when he really should have been doing homework, and continued doing so at university. After graduating, he experimented with working as a pig farmer and a postman before deciding to channel these skills into becoming a primary school teacher.

A young boy who goes by the name Owen, lives with his parents who are safety freaks, in fact they are afraid of everything: bears; tornadoes; papercuts, kidnappers... you name it, they’re afraid of it. Unfortunately, their son, Owen is sick of being frightened. He is so sick that he and his friends make a spontaneous decision to actually do the unthinkable and face their fears!

“I am a Tornado Chaser and I am not afraid!”

This book was filled with many adventures, including chasing tornadoes. Owen is an interesting character in the book and is not your stereotypical young boy. Though he was doing the unthinkable by going behind his parents’ backs, I could not help but root for him and his best friends as he decided to change things.

As the story developed, the chapters became more and more suspense-filled and interesting to read. The characters’ roles, emotions and thoughts change so fast it can be hard to keep up (in a good way). Ross Montgomery has included several adventures in this book, in fact this book has received high praises from so many people and even newspapers have commented on its brilliance.

I enjoyed it so much and found myself reading it out loud to some of my cousins on family video calls!

I look forward to more books from Ross.
