Detective Teddy Lovely and Trunks Go Time-Travelling by Miranda Taylor, aged 8

It was a normal day and Detective Teddy Lovely and Trunks were both walking around, trying to enjoy the sunshine. Trunks was Detective Teddy Lovely’s miniature pet elephant. They were both feeling a bit sad because they’d just been told that their home was going to be knocked down.

After a walk in the park, they felt better. Detective Teddy Lovely picked up her phone and saw a message from Happypuff, the great Professor and Inventor of Gadgets. The Professor’s message said: “Come to my lab and see my latest invention.”

They were soon at the lab. Happypuff welcomed them, “Thank you for coming. My latest project is a time machine. I’ve tested it out, and now I’d like you to try it. I want you to go back in time and find out if you can change things in the past!”

Teddy Lovely and Trunks were very excited. They stepped into the time machine, which was a large blue box. Straight away, it flew towards the ceiling. The Professor pressed a button and the ceiling opened so it could go through. Teddy Lovely and Trunks were scared and held paws.

When they landed it was 1837 and the beginning of Victorian times. Teddy Lovely and Trunks tiptoed out of the time machine, and found themselves in a living room in a glorious mansion. In front of them was a lady wearing gold, silver, diamonds and rubies on her dress. She said in a loud voice, “I am Lady Emily. Who are you? What are you doing here? You are now my servants!”

“Oh no,” screamed Teddy Lovely and Trunks.

            “Silence!” ordered Lady Emily.

They were made to do cleaning, cooking and all the other dirty jobs that no one else wanted to do. Trunks was sent up the chimney to clean it.

A few hours later, Lady Emily came to speak to them, “Have you finished your jobs? I have lots more jobs for you!”

“We want to go back home,” said Teddy Lovely.

Suddenly, tiny Trunks pushed Lady Emily into the time machine.

Teddy Lovely and Trunks both jumped in and pressed the button for 2017.

Back in Professor Happypuff’s lab, Lady Emily was confused. “Where am I?” she asked.

“You are in the future,” said Teddy Lovely. “We don’t have any servants here. If you want you can stay and live happily with us.”

“But what about all my gold and jewels?” asked Lady Emily.

“Well, you don’t have them any more. But your big house is still standing and it’s been empty for 180 years! We could all move in there and live happily together. But none of us would be servants. We’d all just have cuddles and be good friends.”

Everyone agreed it was a good idea, and they all lived very happily and Trunks was never sent up a chimney again.
