Fuzzy Mud by Louis Sachar reviewed by Holly S

Fuzzy Mud is a mysterious book about micro-organisms. It is about this girl, (Tamaya), and two boys (Chad and Marshall). Tamaya and Marshall are best friends, although when Marshall is with his friends and around Tamaya he is awkward. Chad is the school bully. Except he only bullies Marshall and no one knows why… Then one day Chad is mad at Marshall for getting a question right in class and states he is going to beat him up after school. Marshall secretly scared, has to lie to Tamaya and go with her through the woods instead of by the main road. But Chad finds them. They all get into a fight but then Tamaya decides that Chad is really hurting Marshall so she picks up this fuzzy mud beside her and throws it in Chad’s face. Chad runs off. Tamaya feels a strange tingling sensation in her hand but she just ignores it. Eventually, Tamaya and Marshall make it home. The next day Tamaya’s hand is red, bloody and blistery, she refuses to go to the doctors, (she has never been off school and plans to keep her perfect record that way!). She and her mum finally agree to go to the doctors after school. When Tamaya and Marshall get to school, Chad is reported missing… and before you know it Tamaya and then Marshall have gone, and the school is on complete lock down!!

Fuzzy Mud is an excellently written book. There are lots of twists and turns, drama, and mystery, which I think, makes a book interesting and gripping. I believe it is suitable for Yr5 children and older. I would definitely read it again.
