Paranoic Customers and Dead Blue-Bottles : Why George Orwell was wrong about second hand bookshops

At a conference entitled Resurrecting The Book at the (then) new public library in Birmingham in 2013, Terry Potter gave a presentation to a small but enthusiastic audience challenging George Orwell's rather gloomy memories of working in a second-hand bookshop. The talk very quickly became a dialogue with the audience and a sharing of a wide range of memories about their own favourite bookshops and why they loved spending time in them. The prepared text of that speech is here for viewing and the slides of the visuals used are attached in PDF that can befound in the 'Presentations'  section of the Resource Archive.

The paper was written by Terry Potter
