Simon Armitage to replace Carol Anne Duffy as Britain’s poet laureate

Simon Armitage has been appointed Britain’s poet laureate, taking over from Carol Anne Duffy who has held the post for 10 years. The poet, who quit his job as a probation officer in 1994 to become a writer full time, revealed that his parents burst into tears when he told them the news.
